DON’T UNDERCOUNT
Events that underestimate headphone count hit a visible problem: guests who want to participate get turned away. That moment undermines the energy of the reception. The cost differential between 100 and 125 headphones is minor relative to what happens if you run short.
STAGED DISTRIBUTION
If your reception has a 2-hour seated dinner before dancing starts, you can stage headphone distribution to coincide with dancing rather than handing them out all night. This allows a slightly lower headphone count if budget is a concern.
CHANNEL 1
Your curated wedding playlist. The songs you picked for this night, in the order you want them. First dance, special moments, songs that mean something to your specific story. This channel serves your closest family and the people there for the emotional connection to your music.
CHANNEL 2
A DJ set or high-energy playlist built for dancing. Pop, hip-hop, Top 40 depending on your crowd profile. Keeping these on a separate channel means the dance floor energy doesn’t compete with the meaningful moments on Channel 1.
CHANNEL 3
Classic rock for the parents. Latin music if your families have that connection. 80s and 90s throwbacks. A live acoustic set transmitted wirelessly. Done right, this channel becomes the surprise hit of the night — the thing people didn’t know they needed.
EAST MOUNTAINS / CORRALES / WINE COUNTRY
Noise ordinances in these areas typically set hard limits at 65 to 75 decibels after 10 PM. A traditional DJ setup at a medium wedding hits those limits during normal operation. Silent disco eliminates the problem entirely.
LA FONDA / LORETTO / BISHOP’S LODGE
High ceilings, irregular room shapes, and historic preservation requirements all complicate traditional speaker placement. Silent disco bypasses these issues: transmitters broadcast to headphones regardless of room acoustics.
COCKTAIL + RECEPTION IN SEPARATE SPACES
You can broadcast different channels in different rooms without running separate speaker rigs. Guests carry their headphones through both spaces and switch channels based on where they are.
WHAT DOESN’T WORK WELL
Ceremony amplification is not what silent disco is for. The headphone experience is interactive and social — guests switch channels, take headphones off to talk, put them back on. That dynamic is exactly what you don’t want during vows or a ceremony reading. Use traditional PA for the ceremony and bring in the silent disco for the reception.
